Goring has now been chosen as village of the year 2009 for the south of England! Back in July it was named Oxfordshire's village of the year, having been selected ahead of 11other short-listed villages in the competition sponsored by LPG supplier, Calor. A working model of the proposed hydro-electric power scheme at Goring lock attracted the attention of judges. Sustainability was one of four themes which were the focus of the competition. Further interest was shown in a detailed hazard map for disabled buggy users, currently being devised, and presented as an example of the dedicated community effort put into meeting everyone’s needs in Goring. The Goring entry was organised by local businessman, Ron Bridle plus Manor Road resident, Gill Cranshaw and Ann Hart, chairman of the parish council. The Oxfordshire result was announced on BBC Radio Oxford on 10 July. Click here to see the BBC report. The BBC has also reported the latest triumph. Click the download button for the full story.
